Acupuncture

An illuminated view of the way energy, Qi (chee) flows through your organs, muscles, and tendons according to Chinese Medicine Theory (No Sound)

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles at specific points on the body. This process stimulates movement of energy within the body, allowing natural healing to take place. Acupuncture practitioners are trained to select these points, based on over 3,000 years of experience in China.

Acupuncture helps to prevent illness by improving the overall functioning of the body’s immune and organ systems. Acupuncture is helpful for:

  • Treating existing illnesses and injuries.
  • Pain, both chronic and that caused by trauma.
  • Preventing both recurrence of illnesses and new illness.
  • Improving overall health.

Community Acupuncture

community-acupunctureWhat is community acupuncture?
The concept of Community Acupuncture is a new one in Vero Beach. In Asia, acupuncture is commonly practiced in a community setting. By treating several people in one space fees are lowered, overhead is reduced and the patient receives all of the same healing benefits as one would achieve in a private setting. Truly the only difference between a private acupuncture treatment and a community acupuncture treatment is privacy and cost to the patient. Patients still receive the highest quality of care by a Board Certified and Licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine as they relax and enjoy their treatment in a calm, comfortable and tranquil atmosphere. A patient spends the same amount of time receiving their treatment in the community room as they would in a private room. Some benefits of treatment in a more communal setting are ease of access, no appointment needed and you can even go with a friend or family member and be treated together. Both treatment settings include a thorough intake, a consultation with the Acupuncture Physician and nutritional counseling, whole food supplement and herbal recommendations to help the patient regain confidence in their body’s ability to heal. No appointment necessary, just walk in! Cost $30.

Chinese Herbs

herbsHerbs play a major role in the way modern Chinese medicine is practiced. Unlike western medications which often function by suppressing or covering symptoms, Chinese herbal medicines stimulate the body’s innate healing response to restore normal, balanced physiological function. Used in combination with acupuncture, Chinese herbs can facilitate healing and recovery.

AIM also utilizes Standard Process Whole Foods Supplements, Evergreen herbs, homeopathy and a full line of Sin Jin Bao herbs. These products are safe, effective and highly recommended for full recovery and faster well-being. Your acupuncture physician will discuss which herbs and/or supplements are right for you.

Cupping

cuppingCupping therapy is the method of using glass or plastic cups to create localized pressure by a vacuum. The Chinese have been doing this since ancient times by using heat inside glass or bamboo cups. Modern cupping sets use suction to create the vacuum. The vacuum inside the cups causes the blood to form in the area and help to create healing in that area.

Another healing aspect of cupping therapy is through the release of toxins in your body. The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into your muscle tissue causing the release of harmful stored toxins. This process triggers the lymphatic system to clear the stored toxins. The process is very comfortable and relaxing and many times immediate pain relief is gained.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese medical treatment in which the skin is scraped to produce stimulate the release of toxins, similar to cupping. Practitioners believe gua sha releases unhealthy elements from injured areas and stimulates blood flow and healing. Gua sha is sometimes referred to as “spooning” or “coining”. At AIM, porcelain spoons are used to gently activate the release of stored toxins and feels very similar to deep tissue massage.

Laser Acupuncture

Laser acupuncture usually uses low-energy laserbeams—instead of traditional acupuncture needles—to influence the flow of current at the acupuncture points. A beam of light from a laser tube is used to stimulate specific acupuncture points with results similar to needles.
